The mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through a school-based coordinator, CIS connects students and their families to critical community resources tailored to local needs. Working in nearly 2,400 schools in some of the most challenged communities nationwide, CIS has become the nation's leading dropout prevention organization, and the only one proven to increase graduation rates and decrease dropout rates.

The vision of Communities In Schools of Los Angeles is that every student in L.A.'s public schools receives the supports he or she needs in order to develop the emotional, social and learning skills required to graduate high school ready for meaningful employment or higher education. CIS of Los Angeles serves 12,000 at-risk students at 10 traditional public schools throughout Los Angeles: Mendez Learning Center, Hollenbeck Middle School, John Liechty Middle School, Mark Twain Middle School, Daniel Webster Middle School, Clinton Middle School, Santee Education Complex, Manual Arts High School, Hamilton High School, and Le Conte Middle School.
